The Buffalo Sabres hit the road to face the Colorado Avalanche in a nationally-televised matchup on Wednesday, and we give out our top Sabres vs. Avalanche NHL player props based on the best NHL odds.

Neither the Buffalo Sabres nor the Colorado Avalanche enter this contest in peak form entering Wednesday's featured clash, with Buffalo at 2-2 since the return of Tage Thompson to the lineup (3-5-1 without him) and Colorado at 2-3-2 since Nov. 30.

However, both clubs come into this one off a victory with eyes set on building a two-game winning streak in primetime.

Here are our best Sabres vs. Avalanche NHL player props and NHL picks (odds via our best NHL betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Sabres vs. Avalanche NHL player props

Valeri Nichushkin anytime goal (+160 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

With linemates Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen, and even defenseman Cale Makar at the point with only one puck to go around, it would be easy for Valeri Nichushkin to get lost in the shuffle. But he's been doing well of late even with the Avalanche playing less than their best hockey at the moment, it's just not showing on the stat sheet. At least, not yet.

Nichushkin tallied his first points of December following a three-game cold spell with a pair of assists in a 6-5 win over the Flames on Monday. He's gone five games without a goal, but he has 16 shots in that span. Nichushkin is not far removed from a six-game goal-scoring streak in mid-November.

MacKinnon and Rantanen are both trading around even-money to score a goal on Wednesday, which is always tough to swallow. Nichushkin's odds are a bit better at the +130 mark at most of our best sports betting apps, but the +160 odds at FanDuel take the cake.

Rasmus Dahlin Over 2.5 shots on goal (+100 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Alarm bells went off in Buffalo last week when Rasmus Dahlin sat out Thursday's game vs. the Boston Bruins with a lower-body injury that he had reportedly been dealing with for multiple games. But he missed just the one tilt and picked right up where he left off by peppering opposing netminders with shots.

Dahlin has tallied three or more shots on goal in six straight games (an average of 4.3), bringing his season average over 2.6 shots on net per game. He had three shots on goal, one of which went in, when these clubs met on Oct. 29.

Most of our best sports betting sites are trading Dahlin Over 2.5 shots on goal at -105 or -110, but DraftKings' +100 price stands out.

JJ Peterka anytime goal (+260 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐

JJ Peterka matched his scoring output from 2022-23 by scoring his 12th goal of the season on Monday against the Arizona Coyotes. He's been firing pucks at the net both in volume and with purpose in his sophomore campaign, and he's offering good value to find the twine once more in this spot.

Rather than take the Over on 2.5 shots on goal with Peterka at about even-money, I'll add him to score as a three-star play. Peterka has had at least three shots on goal in 14 games this season, and he's scored in eight of them. Raise that barrier to four shots on goal, and Peterka is 7-for-10, including a current 4-for-5 run in such contests.

Once again, FanDuel is tops among our best sportsbooks in terms of goal prop odds, dangling Peterka at +260. Others have him anywhere from +200 to +230.
