Kirill Kaprizov has put the Minnesota Wild's offense on his back, and he's stormed ahead as the Hart Trophy odds favorite at most of our best NHL betting sites

He's the leader of a formidable four-man pack that includes reigning Hart Trophy winner Nathan MacKinnon, former winner Nikita Kucherov, and three-time winner Connor McDavid.

Just under two months into the season and all four have implied probabilities of over 17% to win the NHL's most coveted individual honor.

Some recent Hart Trophy odds news and notes:

  • Kaprizov leads the league in primary assists and plus/minus
  • MacKinnon leads the league in points, assists, and points per game (1.94)
  • After being held off the scoresheet in his return to the lineup, McDavid scored nine points in the next three games
  • McDavid's Edmonton Oilers have the shortest Stanley Cup odds among the five favorites
  • Connor Hellebuyck is the only goaltender among the 10 favorites. A goaltender hasn't won since Carey Price in 2015

Hart Trophy favorites 2024-25

Kirill Kaprizov (+310)

Kaprizov has enjoyed a ridiculously good start to the season, scoring 30 points in 16 games. He's second behind MacKinnon in league scoring and has 13 more points than Matt Boldy, who's second in team scoring.

He has 11 multi-point games in 16, which included a run of seven straight. And he's only been held off the scoresheet three times. Kaprizov scored 1.19 points per game in his first five seasons, so it will be interesting to see whether he can keep up this almost two-points-per-game clip.

Right now, he is showing no signs of slowing down, and the Wild will need him to maintain this level if they have any chance of contending for the Central Division crown or doing some damage in the playoffs.

A winning $10 bet will profit $45 if Kaprizov wins his first Hart Trophy.

My 2025 Hart Trophy player to watch

Connor Hellbuyck (+3500)

If any goaltender can break the nine-year drought, it's Hellebuyck. His +3500 odds at FanDuel imply a 2.78% chance. In my reckoning, he has a better chance than that probability suggests.

The reigning Vezina Trophy winner has started the season even better than most expected, and that's saying something. He is 12-1-0 with a .934 save percentage and a 1.92 goals-against average. Both stats are a league-best among goaltenders who've played at least 10 games. He also has the most shutouts (3).

One of the best identifiers of elite goaltending is goals saved above expected, showcasing a netminder's ability to save high-danger chances - shots he has no business turning aside. Hellebuyck was the runaway winner of this category last season, finishing 11.1 ahead of second-place Thatcher Demko.

He's among the best again thus far in the current campaign, ranking third with eight. He's been Winnipeg's MVP for years, and if he continues on this unprecedented trajectory, he should be seriously considered for the Hart.

He does, however, have the unenviable job of convincing the decision-makers that a goaltender can, in fact, be worthy of winning the Hart.

How to bet on Hart Trophy futures odds

Understand the odds: Familiarize yourself with the odds listed by each sportsbook for different players to win the Hart Trophy. The player with the lowest odds is considered the favorite.

Look at historical data: Has the player previously won the award, and what position does the individual you're considering backing play? Centers have won over three times as many Hart Trophies as any other position.

Look at the supporting cast: Who does the Hart Trophy candidate play alongside? Will they help or hinder his chances of winning MVP?

Research player performances: Dive into the statistics of the player. The Hart Trophy is usually handed out to an offensive leader, so concentrate on associated stats. Does the player perform better against teams he plays more often?

Stay up to date: Make sure you stay current on injuries to the candidate and his supporting cast. Find out whether there are any suspensions and also look at strength of schedule. Is the player on a hot or cold streak?

Cash-out or hold: Depending on how the season progresses and the player's performance, you can cash out if the odds are in your favor or hold onto your bet until the end of the season to see if your chosen player wins the Hart.

How to read Hart Trophy futures odds

Reading Hart Trophy odds is straightforward. Odds are usually presented in a format like +500 or -200. Positive odds (e.g., +500) show how much profit you’d make on a $100 bet.

For example, a $100 bet at +500 odds would win you $500, plus your original $100 stake, totaling $600. Negative odds (e.g., -200) indicate how much you need to bet to win $100. So, a $200 bet at -200 odds would win you $100, plus your $200 stake, totaling $300.

These odds also reflect the probability of a team winning the championship. Lower odds (e.g., +300) suggest a higher likelihood, while higher odds (e.g., +2000) indicate a lower probability.

Sportsbooks adjust these odds based on performance, injuries, trades, and betting patterns.
