The Vegas Golden Knights and Ottawa Senators are trending in the wrong direction as they prepare for a Thursday battle at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario (7 p.m. ET, ESPN+).

The Senators have lost five of the last seven and three in a row on home ice, while the Golden Knights have lost two in a row, including a 3-0 setback in Toronto on Wednesday, and four of the previous six.

Despite its recent topsy-turvy form, Vegas is still among the Stanley Cup odds favorites. They're underdogs for tonight's game but have had their way with the Sens since entering the league, winning 11 of 13 and five of six in Ottawa.

Our Golden Knights vs. Senators prediction looks to Brady Tkachuk, expecting the Sens' captain to have a colossal night.

The only thing I don't like about this bet is the -143 odds. However, the slightly lower potential profit margin is worth the sacrifice on this occasion.

Tkachuk was like an enraged bull after the Senators' lacklustre home defeat to the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, angry at his and his team's performance.

And while I can't put my faith in the inconsistent Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Sens, I have the utmost confidence that Tkachuk will go through the revolving door and put on his Superman cape prior to tonight's game.

He's put his team on his back countless times before, and I expect the same after mustering just one shot on goal against the Oilers.

It was the first time Tkachuk didn't register at least four shots in the last five games. He averaged 6.75 shots per contest during that four-game stretch, hammering Jeremy Swayman with 12 shots on Nov. 9. While I don't envision that sort of monstrous outing, I feel the conditions are conducive for a bounce-back performance.

The Golden Knights were part of a grueling encounter in Toronto on Wednesday, in which they threw everything at Joseph Woll in the first two periods before losing steam in the third period. It will be challenging for them to be at their best or keep up with Tkachuk's beast mode 24 hours later, which should greatly benefit Ottawa's captain.

Tkachuk has performed well against the Golden Knights recently, at least where his shot production is concerned. He's hit the Over against Vegas in four straight and seven of 10 overall.

A winning $10 bet will yield a $6.99 profit.

Golden Knights vs. Senators player prop bet

NHL picks made Thursday; odds subject to change.

Tim Stutzle prop bet: Over 0.5 power-play points ⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: +250 via Betway | Implied probability: 28.57%

I went with Tim Stutzle to score a power-play point against the Oilers but fell short. Stutzle scored a 5-on-5 goal against Edmonton, so while the prop bet missed, Stutzle did as predicted and contributed offensively.

Despite struggling recently, the Sens' power play at home is still the best in the league (38.2%).

They're 1-for-10 in the last three games on home ice, a significant reason they lost each one. I feel their power play is due for a big night, particularly as Vegas should be slightly fatigued, increasing the probability of more opportunities. And with the 10th-worst efficiency (76.9%), the Golden Knights' penalty kill isn't the best, even under ideal circumstances.

If Stutzle gets a power-play point, you'll earn $25 on a $10 bet. Tkachuk at +225 is another highly appealing play.
