4 Nations Face-Off MVP favorites & best odds

Here's a look at the 4 Nations Face-Off MVP favorites ahead of Canada vs. USA, along with each player's best odds to win the award across our best sportsbooks.

πŸ—½ Connor Hellebuyck, USA (+250 via DraftKings)

The Vezina Trophy odds runaway favorite is the X-Factor, the one person who can steal the championship for the Americans.

When Hellebuyck dons his national colors, he's a staggering 11-1-0, posting a 1.50 goals-against average and a .942 save percentage. If Hellebuyck replicates those numbers in the final, he will be anointed MVP.

The Winnipeg Jets netminder has allowed just two goals on 48 shots, good for a sterling .958 save percentage. While he didn't face a heavy workload against Canada in the round robin (26 shots), he finished with 2.79 goals saved above expected, underpinning his saves' high degree of difficulty.

If you think Team USA will win, back Hellebuyck for MVP.

🍁 Connor McDavid, Canada (+320 via FanDuel)

Unlike his Conn Smythe win from last season's Stanley Cup Final, I can't foresee McDavid winning MVP without shepherding Canada to glory. McDavid has been waiting his whole life for a moment like this. There's no player β€” aside from Crosby β€” who rises to the occasion like he does.

Only MacKinnon can complete with his elusiveness, speed, tenacity and trickery. McDavid enters the final on the back of a two-point performance against the Finns, a game in which he dominated from the opening puck drop. He has four points, one behind Crosby and Zach Werenski for the tournament lead.

McDavid always represents a sound investment, and it's no different this time around.

🍁 Sidney Crosby, Canada (+450 via DraftKings)

Captain Canada. The legend who scored the golden goal against the Americans to lift Canada to glory in the 2010 Olympics and the man who transformed Jake Guentzel into an elite goal-scorer. Continuing the 18-year-old whiskey theme, Crosby ages like one, and he's a demonstrative performance away from another feather in his fully adorned Canada cap.

Crosby has five points, tied with Werenski for the tournament lead, and he's the sole reason Canada prevailed against Sweden in the opener. He also alleviated an entire nation of heart palpitations by finishing off the Finns.

🍁 Nathan MacKinnon, Canada (+800 via DraftKings)

The only player who can take a game by the scruff of its neck like McDavid, MacKinnon transformed into beast mode against Finland, scoring two. Crosby set up two of his three goals in the tournament. The added benefit of playing with the captain could tip the MVP scale in his favor.

πŸ† 4 Nations Face-Off MVP prediction: Connor McDavid (+300 via DraftKings) ββββ

I firmly believe McDavid is the best player on the planet, and I've been bullish on that narrative. When he retires, he'll be spoken in the same breath as the Great One.

Even against the world's best, McDavid, among the Hart Trophy odds favorites yet again, has proven he can step it up to an uncharted level, as he showcased during his magical moment against Hellebuyck in the first period of the round-robin meeting.

I feel Canada has to win for McDavid to receive the accolade. That's who I backed in my Canada vs. USA 4 Nations Face-Off final prediction, so I'm all aboard the McDavid train. A winning $10 bet will profit $30.

πŸ’Ž Best value bet to win 4 Nations Face-Off MVP: Nathan MacKinnon (+800 via DraftKings) ββββ

MacKinnon at +800? Yes, please. The Canadian bull can put the nation on his back; he's that good. The question is whether he'll be able to against an elite defense he struggled against in the round-robin bout.

That's one of the reasons I'm backing him, though. He's not the kind of competitor who gets dominated twice in less than a week by the same team. I'll take my chances with the reigning Hart Trophy winner. A winning $10 bet will profit $80.

🎯 Best long shot to win 4 Nations Face-Off MVP: Matthew Tkachuk (+1700 via FanDuel) βββββ

Matthew Tkachuk comprises half of the bash brothers, and his beast mode is like no other. He kicked off the tournament with two goals and an assist against Finland before fighting Brandon Hagel within a second of the opening puck drop against Canada. His competitiveness and ability to ratchet his intensity in the most clutch moments have me believing he can win this award.

However, Tkachuk missed the third period against Canada and the subsequent game against Sweden due to an upper-body injury. My main concern is whether there is any residual, debilitating pain preventing him from going full beast mode. If there is, he won't win this award. A winning $10 bet will yield a $170 profit.
