Opening Kickoff Super Bowl Prop Bets: Best Predictions for Super Bowl 2025 Opening Kickoff

What will happen on the first play of Super Bowl 59 between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles?
Devin Hester became the first and only player to ever return the opening kickoff of a Super Bowl for a touchdown in Super Bowl 41. With numerous rule changes in place for this Super Bowl, could we see some magic that makes the best opening kickoff Super Bowl prop bets fun again?
In all likelihood, the answer is no. The best Super Bowl betting sites are heavily favoring the opening kickoff being a touchback or a fair catch in the Super Bowl opening kickoff odds. Let's dive into the best opening kickoff props for Sunday’s 6:30 p.m. ET (FOX) clash at Caesars Superdome.

Opening kickoff predictions
Opening kickoff to be returned for a touchdown ⭐
Best odds: +17000 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 0.58%
There have been 58 Super Bowls, yet this has only happened once. And the person to achieve the feat is arguably the greatest returner in NFL history, as he recorded 20 return touchdowns in his career. Yet that won’t stop some bettors from trying to cash in huge on the first play of the game.

There were only seven kick-return touchdowns in the NFL this season. Neither the Eagles nor the Chiefs recorded one. So realistically, the 0.58% chance FanDuel is giving this prop may be a little high.
However, a bet of $1 would win you $170 with the price set at +17000 in the Super Bowl odds. Is it worth the brief moment of excitement before you potentially watch the opening kickoff sail out of the end zone? That’s for you to decide.
Opening kickoff to be a touchback or fair catch: No ⭐⭐⭐
Best odds: +180 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 35.71%
For as common as touchbacks have become, these two teams rank in the middle of the league in touchback percentage. Chiefs kickoffs resulted in touchbacks 69% of the time, with the Eagles at 65%. That’s a far cry from the 84.42% of kickoffs that went for touchbacks for the league-leading Jacksonville Jaguars.
Because both of these teams are willing to put the ball in play on kickoffs, I’m going to take a shot on “No” for this prop. The price of -220 is simply too steep considering neither of these teams was over 70% this season.
Of course, fair catches aren’t accounted for in touchback percentage. But if a kick returner gets an opportunity on the first play of the Super Bowl, I don’t expect them to give up their chance at starting the game off with a significant play.
Eagles to receive opening kickoff ⭐⭐⭐
Best odds: -108 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 51.92%
This prop is a true tossup, as both teams are likely to defer after winning the coin toss. However, the Chiefs have kicked off in each of the last two Super Bowls.
Is there any edge to be gained from that history? Not really. However, I feel like the Eagles are more likely to take the ball if they win the opening coin toss because of the success they enjoyed on their first drive two years ago against the Chiefs.
Additionally, the Eagles are a run-heavy team, so head coach Nick Sirianni could easily elect to put his offense on the field and try to sustain a long drive before taking a 7-0 lead just like in Super Bowl 57.
And although the price difference between the two teams isn’t much, the odds for the Eagles are slightly better. That also makes them more enticing in a true 50/50 play for one of your Super Bowl predictions.
