The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles meet for the 12th time ever and second time in the Super Bowl when they face off in Super Bowl 2025.

We're breaking down the Chiefs vs. Eagles Super Bowl history, including past results and all-time head-to-head record between these two franchises ahead of Sunday's kickoff (6:30 p.m. ET, FOX) at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

How many times have the Chiefs played the Eagles?

The Chiefs and Eagles have faced off 11 times before. Kansas City holds the slight edge in the all-time series with a 6-5 record against Philadelphia.

The matchup history between the two teams stretches all the way back to 1972, and it includes five games that took place 20-plus years ago. It also includes eight games with Andy Reid on the sideliens - three coaching the Eagles and five leading the Chiefs.

If you'd like to feel old and/or bask in a bit of mid-aughts NFL nostalgia, Terrell Owens torched the Chiefs for 171 receiving yards on 11 catches during the 2005 game, weeks before his infamous driveway workout after his relationship with the Eagles deteriorated.

Elsewhere in wistful memories from that decade: the Priest Holmes era. He took off with the Chiefs beginning in 2001, and Holmes posted 176 yards from scrimmage against the Eagles that year in a 23-10 loss.

Let's focus on the more recent matchups, though, including three over the past three years - and that Super Bowl 57 victory that sparked the Chiefs' current run of dominance.

Here are some quick takeaways:

  • Only the three most recent games have taken place during the Patrick Mahomes era, and Jalen Hurts was under center for the Eagles during those contests, too
  • The Chiefs have won two of those three matchups, though the battles have generally been close with an average margin of victory of 6.3 points
  • There's plenty of familiarity on both sides, as the Eagles are bringing back 10 starters from Super Bowl 57 (most of which are on offense), while the Chiefs are returning 14
  • The Eagles sought Super Bowl revenge while taking the most recent game, 21-17, with Philly's swarming defense holding Mahomes to just 177 passing yards (4.1 per attempt) - his lowest single-game mark of that season
  • Hurts has been thriving as a runner against the Chiefs while recording 146 rushing yards and five touchdowns, three of which came during Super Bowl 57

Chiefs vs. Eagles Super Bowl history

These teams have met just once in the postseason: a 38-35 win for the Chiefs two years ago in Super Bowl 57 to claim the first of back-to-back Lombardi Trophies.

Philadelphia led 24-14 at halftime behind three touchdowns from Hurts - two rushing, one passing - and the Eagles QB scored the final touchdown with 5:15 left to knot the score at 35-35. But a late defensive holding call on James Bradberry set up the Chiefs for a game-winning field goal in the final seconds to emerge victorious in an instant classic.

Chiefs vs. Eagles key players, standout performers in past matchups

Again focusing on the three most recent games between the two teams since several of the key players will be on the field again for this year's Super Bowl, here are some of the standout performances from Chiefs-Eagles tilts.

Notably, DeVonta Smith has consistently been enjoying success against the Chiefs while racking up a whopping 321 yards over three career meetings. Hurts has been thriving as both a passer and rusher, too.

But the most seismic statistical eruption came from Mahomes in 2021 with his five touchdown tosses, though many went to the long departed Tyreek Hill.
