Two of the best college basketball teams in recent memory meet tonight in the NCAA Championship as Florida and Houston get set to take to the hardwood at the Alamodome in San Antonio at 8:50 p.m. ET (CBS).

Ahead of tonight's matchup, we're making our Florida vs. Houston score predictions with a focus on the total. Taking into account the Gators' explosive offense and the Cougars' historically dominant defense, we're making our exact final score bet at our best sports betting sites, along with our Over/Under pick.

🔢 What will be the final score of Florida vs. Houston?

📈 Florida vs. Houston Over/Under pick: Over 140.5

Betting on the Over/Under for this matchup is harder than hitting a free throw in the clutch if you're Tyrese Proctor. It's the No. 2 team by KenPom's adjusted offensive efficiency metric against the No. 1 team in adjusted defensive efficiency.

One program got here by lighting up the scoreboard behind Walter Clayton Jr.'s ridiculous shooting, the other by relying on suffocating defense and a slow-paced offense that takes the air out of the ball. The oddsmakers clearly lean toward Houston's approach when it comes to setting the Over/Under line, though, with this being Florida's second-lowest game total of the season.

The only time the Gators have had a lower game total this season was in their Dec. 4 win over Virginia. It was set at 134 against the Cavaliers, and Florida blew past that in an 87-69 win. In fact, Todd Golden's team has hit the Over in 11 of its last 12 games.

So while I do think this ends up being a low-scoring game by Florida's standards, I just barely have it hitting the Over with a projected 72-69 win for Houston. But if this game total creeps any higher as tipoff approaches, the Under will be in play.

🎯 Florida vs. Houston exact score prediction: Houston 72, Florida 69

NCAA Championship: What Will be the Score of Florida vs. Houston?

Hitting on an exact score prediction feels impossible on a good day, but it's that much harder for a game between two teams with completely different approaches to basketball. This is like a Mike Leach Texas Tech team against a Nick Saban era Alabama program before the Crimson Tide began recruiting dynamic quarterbacks and running a spread offense.

However, I do think Houston has the guard defense to slow Clayton enough to keep the Gators' offense in check to some degree. Florida leans so heavily on its sharpshooter that if he isn't playing at a special level, the Gators could have trouble cracking 70 against a Cougars defense that just held Duke to 67. That Blue Devils team just had one of the greatest offensive seasons ever.

Meanwhile, Houston's offense is 360th in adjusted tempo, with their pace likely to limit Florida's possessions and reinforce the Gators' inability to pull off yet another huge offensive output. Yet the Cougars are viciously efficient, which I think will ultimately be the biggest difference in them putting up more points.

The Cougars lead the country in 3-point percentage (39.9%) and have three different borderline elite shooters in LJ Cryer, Emanuel Sharp, and Milos Uzan - all hitting over 41% from deep. That should challenge a Gators defense that has allowed 75.7 points per game against the three teams it's played in the NCAA Tournament that rank top 15 in adjusted offensive efficiency. Houston ranks No. 9.
