In this ever-changing college basketball landscape with players entering the transfer portal and changing teams in record numbers, there is something to be said about roster consistency and continuity.

Houston was on track for a deep NCAA Tournament run as a No. 1 seed last year before Jamal Shead got hurt in a 54-51 Sweet 16 loss to Duke. But the Cougars brought back 80% of the scoring and 67.5% of the minutes from last year’s squad (eighth-most in the country) to fuel this run to the national championship.

The Cougars are primed to win their first title in school history, and I love their head coaching experience advantage. Kelvin Sampson has been to three Final Fours and is the 73rd head coach to enter a national semifinal or championship with two or more such games coached compared to his counterpart.

After he beat Jon Scheyer’s team in the Final Four, head coaches with that kind of advantage in terms of coaching experience are 48-26 SU and 39-35-1 ATS.

🔥 J’Wan Roberts Over 6.5 rebounds ⭐⭐⭐

J'Wan Roberts has grabbed eight or more rebounds in three of Houston's five NCAA Tournament games. He has played at least 32 minutes in each of those outings. I expect Sampson to ride with Roberts even more with a national championship hanging in the balance.

Roberts has ranked 14th or better in conference play in two of the last three seasons in offensive rebounding percentage. He was also a big reason why Duke's Khaman Maluach had a plus/minus rating of minus-20 and did not grab a single rebound in the Final Four.

Roberts recorded at least seven rebounds in six of the 12 games played against NCAA Tournament teams in the regular season. While Florida has a big frontcourt, it is also susceptible to offensive rebounds, and ranked fourth in league play in offensive rebounding percentage allowed.

Houston has the top-ranked defense in the country in terms of adjusted defensive efficiency, but it is also susceptible to elite ball movement. The Cougars rank 317th in percentage of assists allowed per opponents’ made field goals (57.9%).

Sampson's blitz ball screens at one of the highest rates in the country, and I expect the legendary coach will do everything in his power to get the ball out of Walter Clayton Jr.’s hands as much as possible.

Clayton’s O/U on his point total is 19.5, which is surprising considering he is the first player with back-to-back 30-point games in the Elite Eight and Final Four in 46 seasons. That suggests Houston will turn him into more of a facilitator, and he does have four assists in two of the previous three games.
