Towns could benefit immensely from Lively's potential absence tonight. Daniel Gafford is not as strong as his younger teammate, and Towns has bullied his way to 29.3 points per game on 56% field goal shooting over his last 10 outings.
Dallas has been giving up the most paint points per game (63.3) in the NBA over its last three outings and is allowing the third-most points per game (26.16) to centers over the past two weeks.
Towns has also been able to step out to the perimeter and hit 3-pointers at a career-high 47.1% clip. The Knicks start three relatively quiet offensive players in Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart, and OG Anunoby, forcing Towns and Jalen Brunson to log heavy usage.

Lively could only log 11 minutes Monday due to illness and he’s questionable to suit up on Wednesday. Even if the center goes, Washington should be locked into 36-plus minutes at power forward for Dallas against a sizable Knicks team.
Washington has averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds per game over his last three outings despite going 2-for-7 from 3-point range in that span, so his playing time isn’t necessarily tied to his shooting performance.
But the Knicks have allowed the fifth-most 3-pointers per game (2.88) to opposing power forwards this season, giving Washington a decent chance to snap that brief shooting slump. If Thompson is out with plantar fasciitis, Washington could see a significant uptick in usage, and his rebounding numbers could rise if Lively can’t play.
