Payton Pritchard (+190)

After failing to average 10 points per game in any of his first four NBA seasons, few expected Pritchard to compete for the Sixth Man of the Year award, and he was off the board entirely to kick off the campaign.

And then, over the first 15 games of the season, Pritchard exploded to the tune of 15.3 points per game on 46.9% shooting and 42.3% from deep. He's the NBA championship odds-favorite Celtics' fourth-leading scorer on the campaign, and is second on the team in 3-point percentage.

He put together a signature performance against the Brooklyn Nets on Nov. 13, dropping 23 points on 13 shots, and a season-high eight assists to boot.

There is perhaps a small caveat when it comes to Pritchard's production, as Kristaps Porzingis has yet to suit up for the Celtics this season. That means Pritchard would fall from the team's fourth scoring option to the fifth when the Latvian returns, which could hurt his numbers. Even still, the quality looks that Pritchard gets around so much talent could keep his efficiency sky-high.

While Pritchard is undoubtedly a great story and should be the favorite for the award, his steep price of +190 makes him a tough candidate to bet on at this early point in the season.

Jonathan Kuminga (+1400)

To begin the 2024-25 season, many expected Kuminga to compete for the Most Improved Player award, not the Sixth Man of the Year trophy. But in such an unpredictable sport, things can change in just a month's time.

Kuminga struggled mightily in his first three games as a starter, averaging just eight points on 33.3% shooting. But over his 10 games since, all of the bench, he's averaging 15.8 points on 48.8% shooting, adding 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists to his tally. He's brought tons of energy and physicality as a reserve for a surprising Warriors team.

The main concern with Kuminga's candidacy is that he eventually gets re-inserted into the starting lineup. Though Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, and Trayce Jackson-Davis have all started every game they've played in, another seven players have started at least one contest, including Kuminga.

That said, the clear difference between Kuminga's production on the bench vs. starting should be enough to see head coach Steve Kerr keep him there.

And if Kuminga remains on the bench and putting up the numbers he currently is, there are few with a better case to be made for winning the Sixth Man of the Year award, especially considering he's just fifth on the betting leaderboard.
