While four teams are still technically competing to climb the Big Ten Championship odds, two teams are clearly on a collision course for a rematch.

Despite Oregon (+135) beating Ohio State (-160) earlier in the season, it's the Buckeyes who are the favorites by the Big Ten Championship odds. But unlike the Ducks, Ohio State needs to win this weekend against Michigan to lock up its spot in the conference title game.

So while there are four teams alive at our college football betting sites in the Big Ten Championship odds race, the Oregon vs. Ohio State rematch seems inevitable.

  • Ohio State: The Buckeyes are the college football championship odds favorite, and if they can get over the Michigan hurdle, they'll have a shot at revenge against Oregon
  • Oregon: The Ducks remain the No. 1 team by both the AP Top 25 and CFP rankings, but they trail Ohio State by the Big Ten Championship odds
  • Penn State: The Nittany Lions College Football Playoff odds were so short they were pulled, but they still need the Buckeyes to lose for a shot at the conference title
  • Indiana: While Kurtis Rourke's Heisman Trophy odds dissipated with the loss to the Buckeyes, the Hoosiers are still positioned to make the CFP

Big Ten Championship favorite 2024

Ohio State (-160)

After losing to Michigan for three straight seasons, Ryan Day has assembled his most talented roster since becoming Ohio State's head coach in 2019. Too bad Oregon joined the conference this season and Lanning is already outcoaching Day.

While the loss to the Ducks was surely a tough pill to swallow for the Buckeyes' faithful, Ohio State came within one second of getting to kick a potential game-winning field goal.

The Buckeyes showed why they're one of just a handful of teams capable of winning it all in Week 10, too. The win over Penn State on the road and against Indiana at home highlighted how impressive the Buckeyes' defense is and that the team's run game is no joke.

The Buckeyes rank No. 1 in SP+, with many of their new offensive players shining this season (Will Howard, Quinshon Judkins, Jeremiah Smith). And that's while fielding a defense considered among the nation's best.

With Ohio State beating Penn State and Indiana, the Buckeyes will punch their ticket to the Big Ten Championship Game and a rematch with Oregon if they beat Michigan on Saturday.

If you believed in this Ohio State team winning the conference prior to the loss to Oregon, I don't think there's any reason to be scared off. However, this price is a little short given the Ducks are technically the top team in the country - a $10 winning bet on Ohio State pays just a profit of $6.67.

My Big Ten Championship team to watch

Oregon (+135)

Either Ohio State or Michigan has won the Big Ten for seven straight seasons. But Oregon has already proven that it boasts the talent to join those two as the cream of the crop in its new conference.

After getting odds around +200 prior to Week 1, the Ducks' inconsistent play against Idaho and Boise State caused them to lengthen to +250 before they took down Ohio State in Week 7.

While I don't love this price, the Ducks have already shown they can go toe-to-toe with what was supposed to be the best team in the conference. They rank third in SP+, and Dillon Gabriel played arguably the best game of his career against Ohio State. He logged three big-time throws and zero turnover-worthy plays, per PFF.

It's fair to assume the slow start for the Ducks happened partially because they were dealing with so many new pieces via the transfer portal. Now it looks like Lanning has made everything mesh, and Oregon is already locked into the Big Ten Championship Game.

If the Ducks can beat Ohio State again, a $10 bet pays a $13.50 profit. But I do think the Buckeyes will prevail the second time around, despite not loving how short their odds are right now.

How to bet on the Big Ten Championship

When betting on Big Ten Championship odds, first, choose a reputable sportsbook that offers college football futures. Check out the odds for different teams; for example, if Ohio State has +300 odds and Oregon has +600, a $100 bet on Ohio State would win you $300 if they take the championship.

Decide how much you want to wager and place your bet.

If you bet $100 on Ohio State at +300 and they win, you’ll get $400 back ($300 profit + $100 stake). Keep an eye on team performances throughout the season to see how your bet is shaping up.

Remember, when betting in futures markets, the odds will move. It’s mostly about performance and perception. If a team starts playing better or worse than expected, their odds will change. Injuries to key players can significantly impact a team's chances and thus their odds.

Transfers and new player acquisitions can also affect a team's championship odds. Public betting trends play a role too - if a lot of people are betting on one team, sportsbooks might adjust the odds to balance their risk.

Expert analysis and predictions can also influence how people bet, which in turn affects the odds. Understanding these factors helps you make more informed bets and maybe even catch some favorable odds shifts.

How to read Big Ten Championship odds

Reading Big Ten Championship odds is straightforward. Odds are usually presented in a format like +300 or -150. Positive odds (i.e., +300) show how much profit you’d make on a $100 bet.

For example, a $100 bet at +300 odds would win you $300, plus your original $100 stake, totaling $400. Negative odds (i.e., -150) indicate how much you need to bet to win $100. So, a $150 bet at -150 odds would win you $100, plus your $150 stake, totaling $250.

These odds also reflect the implied probability of a team winning the championship. Lower odds (i.e., +200) suggest a higher probability of winning, while higher odds (i.e., +1000) indicate a lower probability.

Sportsbooks adjust these odds based on factors like team performance, injuries, transfers, and betting patterns.

For example, if Michigan has +300 odds and Penn State has +600 odds, Michigan is considered more likely to win. If you bet $100 on Michigan and they win, you’d get $400 back ($300 profit + $100 stake).

Understanding these odds helps you make informed betting decisions and assess potential returns.
