Big Ten Championship Odds 2025: Ohio State Opens as Favorite; Oregon, Penn State Trail

In its first season in the conference last year, Oregon won the Big Ten Championship, but the Ducks weren't the preseason favorites; the reigning national champs, Ohio State, were.
Coming off their championship run, the Buckeyes opened as the Big Ten Championship odds favorites again, with the Ducks sitting just behind them at our college football betting sites.
Penn State and Michigan are the only other programs with shorter than 35/1 odds of taking home the Big Ten title.

- Ohio State: The Buckeyes are the college football championship odds favorite after winning the title this past season, and they're the preseason favorite to win the Big Ten again
- Oregon: The Ducks earned the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff last season after wining the conference, and they once again have a Heisman Trophy odds contender at QB
- Penn State: The Nittany Lions return many of the biggest names in the Big Ten from last year's playoff team that managed to reach the Big Ten title game
- Michigan: After a championship hangover in Sherrone Moore's first season as head coach, the Wolverines landed the No. 1 recruit in the country in QB Bryce Underwood
- Indiana: The Hoosiers reached the CFP in Curt Cignetti's first season as head coach last year but needed to reload in the transfer portal with how much talent they lost
Big Ten Championship favorites 2025
Ohio State (+170)

While the Buckeyes did just win the national championship, these odds are awfully short for a team that lost OC Chip Kelly (Las Vegas Raiders), DC Jim Knowles (Penn State), and 17 key starters/contributors. So not only will Ryan Day have new coordinators in OC Brian Hartline and DC Matt Patricia, but he has a new QB under center in Julian Sayin.
It can be easy to get wrapped up in backing a team as high-profile as Ohio State, but just look at how Michigan fell off last season after losing so much from its title team. Although I don't think the Buckeyes will backslide that much, I do think this price isn't worth the risk. Ohio State plays Texas Week 1, lets wait and see if Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs are enough to take down Arch Manning before backing the Buckeyes to win the Big Ten.

Oregon (+250)
The Ducks won the conference last season, their first in the Big Ten, and they're the team I'd be looking to back this early. Obviously, Dillon Gabriel is gone, but OC Will Stein has proven to be elite at getting the most out of transfer QBs, and Dante Moore is next up.
Our early college football national championship predictions are all in on the Ducks because of Moore's flashes as a true freshman at UCLA two years ago, and because Oregon returns Evan Stewart, Matayo Uiagalelei, and Bryce Boettcher. Plus, Dan Lanning laded the No. 4 transfer portal class, highlighted by running back Makhi Hughes (Tulane). With a $10 wining bet paying a $25 profit, the Ducks are the best team to back right now.
Best odds: +250 via BetRivers | Implied probability: 28.57%
Penn State (+400)

No coach in the Big Ten is having a better offseason thus far than James Franklin. He (Penn State's NIL collective Happy Valley United) lured Drew Allar, Nicholas Singleton, Kaytron Allen, Dani Dennis-Sutton, Zane Durant, and Zakee Wheatley back for their senior seasons. The Nittany Lions also poached Knowles from Columbus.
To help with their receiver problem, Penn State also added Kyron Hudson (USC) and Devonte Ross (Troy). However, it's hard to believe in this team until Franklin starts proving he can win meaningful games, especially in a conference with Ohio State and Oregon. The team also lost Abdul Carter, among the favorites to go No. 1 by the 2025 NFL Draft odds.

My Big Ten Championship team to watch
Michigan (+800)
The Wolverines lost so much to the NFL from the championship team, including head coach Jim Harbaugh, that they never stood a chance at winning the Big Ten last season. But they still managed to beat Ohio State, which should give fans in Ann Arbor plenty of belief in Moore to turn this team around in his second season.
The addition of Underwood, who's been compared to Cam Newton, is huge, and the team also added Fresno State's Mikey Keene if the freshman isn't ready to start. Keene isn't the only portal addition, with Justin Haynes (Alabama), Damon Payne Jr. (Alabama), and Tre Williams (Clemson) all joining a lineup that returns several all-conference caliber players like Derrick Moore and Rod Moore.

How to bet on the Big Ten Championship
When betting on Big Ten Championship odds, first, choose a reputable sportsbook that offers college football futures. Check out the odds for different teams; for example, if Ohio State has +300 odds and Oregon has +600, a $100 bet on Ohio State would win you $300 if they take the championship.
Decide how much you want to wager and place your bet.
If you bet $100 on Ohio State at +300 and they win, you’ll get $400 back ($300 profit + $100 stake). Keep an eye on team performances throughout the season to see how your bet is shaping up.
Remember, when betting in futures markets, the odds will move. It’s mostly about performance and perception. If a team starts playing better or worse than expected, their odds will change. Injuries to key players can significantly impact a team's chances and thus their odds.
Transfers and new player acquisitions can also affect a team's championship odds. Public betting trends play a role too - if a lot of people are betting on one team, sportsbooks might adjust the odds to balance their risk.
Expert analysis and predictions can also influence how people bet, which in turn affects the odds. Understanding these factors helps you make more informed bets and maybe even catch some favorable odds shifts.
How to read Big Ten Championship odds
Reading Big Ten Championship odds is straightforward. Odds are usually presented in a format like +300 or -150. Positive odds (i.e., +300) show how much profit you’d make on a $100 bet.
For example, a $100 bet at +300 odds would win you $300, plus your original $100 stake, totaling $400. Negative odds (i.e., -150) indicate how much you need to bet to win $100. So, a $150 bet at -150 odds would win you $100, plus your $150 stake, totaling $250.
These odds also reflect the implied probability of a team winning the championship. Lower odds (i.e., +200) suggest a higher probability of winning, while higher odds (i.e., +1000) indicate a lower probability.
Sportsbooks adjust these odds based on factors like team performance, injuries, transfers, and betting patterns.
For example, if Michigan has +300 odds and Penn State has +600 odds, Michigan is considered more likely to win. If you bet $100 on Michigan and they win, you’d get $400 back ($300 profit + $100 stake).
Understanding these odds helps you make informed betting decisions and assess potential returns.
