The MAC Championship odds have become clear with just four teams left in the race after a handful of eventful MACtion games in early November.

Among the highlights:

  • Six different teams have already been the favorite to win the conference at our college football betting sites
  • Bowling Green (+110) remains the favorite thanks to tight end Harold Fannin Jr. being the MAC's top Heisman Trophy odds candidate
  • Ohio's dominant showing on the road against Toledo shortened the Bobcats' odds from +550 to +185, and now the team is one win away from clinching a MAC Championship bid
  • Entering the season as a potential G5 contender in the College Football Playoff odds, Miami (Ohio) has rebounded from a slow start, and a win against Bowling Green on Nov. 29 would put the RedHawks into the conference title
  • Despite knocking off college football championship odds contender Notre Dame earlier in the season, Northern Illinois has fallen off the board

The MAC is one of only two conferences without a team receiving a vote in the most recent AP Top 25, which has made it one of the toughest conferences to predict this season.

MAC Championship favorite

Bowling Green (+110)

Bowling Green no longer holds a losing record, so I can finally feel less shame about banging the table for the Falcons to win the MAC since the offseason.

Scot Loeffler's program proved it boasts the talent to be among the best in the conference while keeping pace with Penn State during a 34-27 loss and Texas A&M in a 26-20 loss. While the MAC schedule hasn't felt like a breeze following those defeats, the Falcons are still leading the race.

After a 1-4 stretch, Bowling Green has righted itself while beat Toledo 41-26. The Rockets had been the favorites to win the conference and were viewed as the most talented team in the MAC.

Since that win in late October, the Falcons have been cleaning up in MACtion play with a 23-13 victory over Central Michigan and a 31-13 win over a Western Michigan team that had been undefeated in conference action.

What makes Bowling Green so interesting is that it boasts two future NFL players on its offense: tight end Harold Fannin Jr. and running back Terion Stewart. Those two are capable of carrying the Falcons to a title.

Bowling Green plays Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 29 in what should be the most significant MAC game of the regular season, and it will likely act as a play-in game for the MAC Championship. If the Falcons can take the conference, a $10 winning bet pays an $11 profit.

My MAC Championship team to watch

Miami (Ohio) (+330)

After winning the conference last season, Miami (Ohio) opened the year as the favorite to take home the title again with +220 odds. However, a tough schedule to start the campaign made the RedHawks an afterthought until mid-October.

A 1-4 start, which included a loss to Toledo, made it look like Chuck Martin's team would be taking a step back after Power 4 squads raided it in the transfer portal.

But Martin is proving once again to be one of the most underrated coaches in college football. Miami (Ohio) has won six straight thanks to the emergence of running back Keyon Mozee and a stingy defense.

If Miami (Ohio) beats Bowling Green in its final game of the regular season on Nov. 29, the RedHawks will reach the MAC Championship. I believe the winner of that matchup will beat the Bobcats in the conference title game.

If the RedHawks become the first MAC repeat champ in over a decade, a $10 bet pays a $33 profit.

How to bet on the MAC Championship

When betting on MAC Championship odds, first, choose a reputable sportsbook that offers college football futures. Check out the odds for different teams; for example, if Miami (OH) has +300 odds and Northern Illinois has +600, a $100 bet on Miami (OH) would win you $300 if they take the championship.

Decide how much you want to wager and place your bet. If you bet $100 on Miami (OH) at +300 and they win, you’ll get $400 back ($300 profit + $100 stake). Keep an eye on team performances throughout the season to see how your bet is shaping up.

Remember, when betting in future markets, the odds will move. It’s mostly about performance and perception. If a team starts playing better or worse than expected, their odds will change. Injuries to key players can significantly impact a team's chances and thus their odds. Transfers and new player acquisitions can also affect a team's championship odds.

Public betting trends play a role too - if a lot of people are betting on one team, sportsbooks might adjust the odds to balance their risk.

Expert analysis and predictions can also influence how people bet, which in turn affects the odds.

How to read MAC Championship odds

Reading MAC Championship odds is straightforward. Odds are usually presented in a format like +300 or -150. Positive odds (i.e., +300) show how much profit you’d make on a $100 bet.

For example, a $100 bet at +300 odds would win you $300, plus your original $100 stake, totaling $400. Negative odds (i.e., -150) indicate how much you need to bet to win $100. So, a $150 bet at -150 odds would win you $100, plus your $150 stake, totaling $250.

These odds also reflect the implied probability of a team winning the championship. Lower odds (i.e., +200) suggest a higher probability of winning, while higher odds (i.e., +1000) indicate a lower probability. Sportsbooks adjust these odds based on factors like team performance, injuries, transfers, and betting patterns.

For example, if Toledo has +300 odds and Bowling Green has +600 odds, Toledo is considered more likely to win. If you bet $100 on Toledo and they win, you’d get $400 back ($300 profit + $100 stake). Understanding these odds helps you make informed betting decisions and assess potential returns.
