With dozens of NFL draft hopefuls taking the field at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas tonight at 8 p.m. ET (NFL Network), our East-West Shrine Bowl preview looks at which prospects to watch as we make our predictions and break down the odds.
While the West won't have its biggest name, 2025 NFL Draft odds No. 1 pick contender Shedeur Sanders, taking the field, there's still plenty of talent to check out in the 100th rendition of this all-star event.

While Sanders opted not to participate in practice this week in Frisco, Texas, six other quarterbacks took the field at North Texas' indoor practice facility in front of a plethora of NFL scouts and media members. Although none of the quarterbacks will likely sneak into Day 2 of the draft, how they fared in practice can be a good indicator of which side to back in the game against the spread.
Overall, Minnesota's Max Brosmer, who's on the West team, had the best week of practice among the quarterbacks with his arm talent frequently standing out. However, in this all-star game setting each QB usually plays a similar amount, meaning the smarter play may be to back whichever QB room looks the best as a whole ... in that case, it's got to be the East.
Brosmer had the best week, but stacking these quarterbacks, Syracuse's Kyle McCord and North Dakota State's Cam Miller were easily the second and third-best passers on the Mean Green's indoor field, both of whom are on the East. The drop-off from them to Auburn's Payton Thorne (East), UCLA's Ethan Garbers (West), and Missouri's Brady Cook (West) is stark.
This is also a setting where a mobile quarterback can be a big difference maker with the passing game sporadic as the QBs and pass catchers struggle with timing - plus, defenses aren't allowed to blitz in these games. Miller is the best runner among these quarterbacks.
Non-QB difference makers on offense
While there's not a massive difference in overall talent from one roster to the next, the East does have the two receivers that had arguably the best week of practice (Eastern Washington's Efton Chism III and Auburn's KeAndre Lamber-Smith) and the most athletic tight end (Auburn's Rivaldo Fairweather). Plus, East running backs Rocket Sanders (South Carolina) and Jacory Croskey-Merritt (Arizona) were among the best at their position.
In a game where neither team really has much of an edge given the setting, I'd rather take the underdog with better odds. If the East covers, a $10 bet pays a $9.52 profit.
East-West Shrine Bowl Over/Under prediction
Under 41.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Best odds: -110 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 52.38%
Many fans want to see the offensive prospects, but the defense is much more talented at this year's Shrine Bowl. The defensive linemen, in particular, were unstoppable for stretches, and both rosters have several players who bolstered their stock—including Miami's Tyler Baron (East), Ole Miss' JJ Pegues (East), Maryland's Jordan Phillips (West), and Indiana's CJ West (West).
There's an argument to be made that outside of Sanders, the first half dozen players selected in the NFL draft from the Shrine will be on the defensive side. Baron, Pegues, Phillips, West, Kansas' Cobee Bryant, California's Nohl Williams, Georgia's Warren Brinson, Ole Miss' Chris Paul Jr., and North Carolina's Alijah Huzzie are all in contention. (That doesn't include East Carolina's Shavon Revel and Michigan's Kenneth Grant, who are at the Shrine just for the interview portion.)
Between the defensive talent and how difficult it can be for new offensive players to get on the same page, I love the Under here. Twelve of the last 14 Shrine Bowls have finished with a game total Under 41.5.
