American Gaming Association Estimates $1.39 Billion Spend on 2025 Super Bowl

The American Gaming Association (AGA) has estimated Americans will legally wager a record $1.39 billion on Super Bowl 2025.
Super Bowl 59 will be the seventh Super Bowl since the Supreme Court struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) in 2018, which allowed more states to legalize sports betting. In the wake of it, 38 states and D.C. launched legal sports betting markets.
The AGA’s American Attitudes Survey from August last year suggests that support for legal sports betting is great in the United States. According to the survey, 75% of Americans support legal sports wagering in their home state, while 90% consider sports betting an acceptable form of entertainment.
With these figures supporting a legal sports betting market, the AGA has shifted its estimates accordingly.
Previous years
Last year, the AGA reportedly expected $23.1 billion to be wagered on the Super Bowl, with $16 billion the year before. These figures are far higher than this year’s estimated $1.39 billion. This difference is due to the AGA’s changed methodology.
In previous years, the AGA used public surveys that considered a variety of wagers, including illegal and casual ones, but this year, it has limited itself to legal wagering only. As a result, the overall estimate is lower than in previous years but a record for legal wagering. There are so many legal avenues for sports betting and excellent sportsbook promos that it makes sense to drop casual and illegal avenues from the estimates.

The AGA’s estimate marks a significant milestone in the growth of the legal sports betting market in the United States.

This comes amid a flurry of big bets on the Super Bowl, including several bettors risking six figures on wagers. Among many Super Bowl trends, bettors are placing plenty of wagers on prop bets.
